IPI is a personal communication device designed for Astronauts travelling to Mars in the next 20 to 30 years. The biggest issue faced by astronauts is an absence of connection with their loved ones back on Earth. Due to the distance, communication becomes difficult, especially given the 40 minute communication lag between Earth and Mars.
IPI aims to solve this problem. Astronauts can record personal holographic messages to their loved ones, and can receive holographic messages from Earth. IPI will hover and follow the astronaut when recording a video message, allowing the astronaut greater flexibility to share his or her story with people on Earth. This allows for a deeper connection between an people and ensures that even in space, anyone can remain connected to one another.
