I focused on making a puzzle where each individual piece could stand alone as an exciting visual element. One of the constraints I placed on myself was that the puzzle had to start as a square, come apart and have each piece exist as an element alone, and come back together to form the original square. Using animals from the ocean, I sketched a variety of different combinations of animals and kept one sea-creature as the focus point for each puzzle. Each puzzle was then further explored in foam-core and then laser-cut in wood, resulting in the final puzzle.
Per Plexos were featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art as part of a group of 30 finalists for Collab’s toy design competition.
